Moving is backbreaking work for the people who are actually handling the move. It can get even worse for your movers, if you don't treat them well. Although movers are professionals and can adapt to different environments and work conditions, you can make their work easier by observing the following tips:

Prepare For the Movers Arrival

One of the best things you can do for your movers is to prepare for their arrival, and make their work as easy as possible. For example, you need to get things out of the way, and ensure your access way is clear and safe. If the conditions are freezing and your driveway is slippery, deice it, before the movers arrive. This is necessary not only for the safety of the movers, but also to prevent accidental damages to your belongings.

Provide Refreshments

Moving is heavy work, and if you can put yourself in the shoes of your movers, you will realize the difference it can make receiving some refreshment. At the very least, you should provide them with drinking water, but more than that is advisable. Some beverages or even food may be best; the longer the work takes, the more it's best to provide.

Don't Provide Unsolicited Alcohol

It's not advisable to offer alcohol to your movers, especially if they don't ask for it. It might be that their employer forbids drinking on the job. Some people also have their personal reasons for not drinking on the job (maybe they don't want to be tipsy). However, it's alright to give alcoholic drinks, if someone actually asks for it.

Tip with Money, Not Goods

You probably know that it is wise to tip movers at the end of the day. There is no hard rule on how much you should give, but it should be equivalent with your level of satisfaction and how involved the work was. What most people don't know is that they should tip with actual money and not goods. Let the movers decide whether they want to buy soda or not, instead of giving them cans of Coca-Cola.

Let the Movers Do Their Work

Lastly, once the movers are clear on which boxes they should load and which ones contain fragile items, let them do their work. If you chose the right company, you will be dealing with experienced and skilled professionals who know how to handle valuable items. It won't do to micromanage them at each stage of the process.
